There are tremendous benefits to evaluating your staff on a regular basis. So how does one do just that? Before you evaluate your staff, you need to set clear goals and standards. Throughout the year, track the performance of each employee and keep a log for each worker. At least once a year, formally evaluate each employee by writing a performance appraisal and holding a meeting with the employee. When evaluating be sure to:
- Be specific.
- Give deadlines.
- Be realistic.
- Be honest.
- Evaluate performance, not personality.
- Listen to your employees and include their feedback as part of the process.
