No manager likes to have “the talk” with poor performers in their team but sometimes it’s inevitable. Firstly, you need to make sure you are specific. If the staff member in question is always late, specify the number of times. Secondly, make expectations of the business clear. Follow this up clarifying the consequences but, never underestimate the staff member’s need for training. Remember, this is the perfect time for you to motivate and follow up with feedback.
